EDREPORTS NOVEMBER UPDATE

eAlerts | November 4, 2016

We recently published new reviews of high school math instructional materials. After reviewing nine series, we found that two met criteria for alignment in all three review gateways: 1) focus and coherence; 2) rigor and mathematical practices; and 3) instructional supports and usability.

Read the full reviews or compare all series and titles. View our webinar to learn more about the HS mathematics review process.

A note of appreciation to the hundreds of educators hard at work reviewing instructional materials. Content review teams are comprised of outstanding educators and experts who have demonstrated a deep understanding of CCSS. They represent every grade level and average more than 15 years of classroom teaching experience.

We will release
additional grade-level reports for K-12 math and 3-8 ELA in the coming months. If you would like to request a review for a series not currently in our queue, or if you have stories about how you have used one of our reviews, please send an email to communications@edreports.org.

IN THE CLASSROOM AND IN THE FIELD

We caught up with Jana Bryant, Math Instructional Coach with Daviess County Public Schools in Kentucky. She shares why what is taught in the classroom matters and a bit about her experience as an EdReports.org content reviewer.

"Teachers should be able to spend the majority of their time engaging with and offering feedback to their students, and refining their own instruction. Many teachers spend too much time searching for and creating their own standards-aligned resources."

REVIEW TOOL AND OUR APPROACH

Our review teams spend 5-10 hours per week over several months analyzing instructional materials and writing the detailed reports. Reviewers independently collect evidence from materials as they review them against our rubric. They then meet weekly to share findings and collaborate to decide which evidence best represents the indicator. For more details on our approach and to view the tool, visit our website and view a presentation about the review process.
